A Chinese blue and white porcelain baluster jar with wooden lid, 18th century
Notes
Vividly decorated in underglaze blue with a phoenix in flight reserved on a dense ground of scrolling peonies, bordered by castellated bands and a ruyi head band encircling the short cylindrical neck. The phoenix symbolises virtue and harmony, while peonies are associated with wealth and prosperity.
