Passage (Reception)

This painting is a portrait of Richard Lumley, 1st Earl of Scarborough (1650–1721), who was an English soldier, statesman and gentleman of the bedchamber to William III. Kneller is known to have painted Lumley's son in 1717, a portrait that is held at the National Portrait Gallery, London.
