"Skotnes won the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Visual Art in 1993. The award recognised her ability as a visual artist to utilise her research in a new and different language, infusing visual images with a strong sense of history and tradition, and at the same time making connections between past and present that instil her work with contemporary significance."
