"The Ven. Charles Theophilus Hahn, born in England in 1870, was an Oxford educated clergyman. As an Anglican missionary he lived in Zululand between 1908 and 1916. He later changed his name to Headley and died in 1930.
Both he and his wife travelled widely in church matters and on painting expeditions. Evidence of that can be found in his and his wife's pictures from the UK, Channel Islands, Italy and also Mexico. CT Hahn painted some 235 watercolours of outstanding quality of Natal flora.
His works as botanical illustrator and her paintings of topographical scenes have only become more widely known after their death." Notes supplied by current owner.
