A Staffordshire pearlware blue and white 'chinoiserie' teapot, Adams, Tunstall, late 19th/early 20th century
of ovoid outline, transfer-printed with a cartouche of a small boy dancing, being observed by two attendants before a balustraded garden, the reverse with a cartouche of a flower-and-fruit-filled panier with a pheasant perched on its handle, the whole enclosed by a simulated crackle ground, the cover surmounted by a flowerhead, the base inscribed ‘Rd No 623294, This Pattern was introduced by William Adams in 1780 being a copy of a Chinese pattern & one of the first of its style produced in English pottery. Mm Adams, ENGLAND’, impressed ‘ADAMS, TUNSTALL, 24’, 18,5cm high
