Two lacquered papier-mâché boxes, Fedoskino workshop, Russia, 20th century
each oval-shaped, one painted with a young girl in traditional attire putting on her earrings, against a mother-of-pearl ground with gilt highlights, enclosed by a gilt frame, the sides painted with gilt swirls, the other painted with the portrait of a lady in traditional dress, enclosed by a gilt frame, the sides painted with gilt scroll work, with Cyrillic inscriptions, the larger 4cm high, 9,8cm wide, 13,4cm deep
