Two lacquered papier-mâché boxes, Kholui, Russia, 20th century
each rectangular-shaped, one painted with the portrait of a lady in an evening gown, a diadem adorning her forehead, enclosed by a gilt border, the other painted with Catherine the Great, enclosed by a gilt border, the sides painted with gilt foliage, raised on incorporated bracket feet, each with Cyrillic inscriptions, the larger 4,3cm high, 12cm wide, 15cm deep
