Cape Colony
A rare Cape silver table snuff box, Thomas Stephenson, mid 19th century
the hinged regtangular cover inscribed "PRESENTED BY THE Officers, Serjeants & Men of the Cape Town Police to their much respected superior Officer John King Esq 1853", with the engraved outline of Table Mountain below, enclosed by an elaborate cartouche of acanthus leaves and a bird, the sides and base similarly engraved, the whole moulded in relief with foliate borders, the gilt interior inscribed "Presented on the 23rd November 1853 after a period of 24 years Service in the Police Force", 270g, 12cm wide, 6,5 deep, 3cm high
