About this Item

2009 Pauillac
1 (1 x 1) 750ml

Chateau Pontet-Canet is a large Pauillac estate that can trace its origins back to 1725 and is today owned by the Tesseron family whom also own Lafon Rochet. Pontet-Canet's 78 hectares of vineyards adjoin those of Mouton Rothschild and are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon (63%), Merlot (32%) and Cabernet Franc (5%). The Tesserons have vastly improved the quality of the Pontet-Canet wines which are now full-bodied and packed with ripe, black fruits and finely integrated tannins.

Critics Ratings

‘Deep garnet in color, the 2009 Pontet-Canet slips sensuously from the glass with opulent scents of crème de cassis, baked plums and Black Forest cake plus suggestions of Chinese five spice, potpourri, oolong tea and menthol. Full-bodied, rich, spicy and oh-so-decadent in the mouth, it has a fantastically velvety frame and seamless freshness, finishing very long.’ - Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate, 100/100 (May 2020)

‘This is amazingly expressive now considering how huge it is, with stunning espresso and warm fig confiture aromas followed by lush layer after layer of blackberry paste, cassis and plum sauce. A terrific loam underpinning strides in on the finish, which is weighty but sports serious cut. Equal parts fruit and earth. Best from 2018 through 2038.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 96/100 (Mar 2012)
