About this Item

2006 Peter Barlow
5 (1 x 5) 750ml

Founded in 1682, Rustenberg Estate on the Simonsberg foothills is one of the most historic and picturesque farms in South Africa. The farm was previously split into two estates, until 1945 when industrialist Peter Barlow purchased both farms and reunited them. Rustenberg is family-owned with son of Peter Barlow, Simon, owning the estate and grandson, Murray (2 x Diners Club Young Winemaker of the Year) now cellar master.

This site-specific Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the oldest vineyard on the estate, high up on the Simonsberg. It is truly one of South Africa’s best Cabernet Sauvignons and has the track record to age for decades.

Critics Ratings

'Complex, elegant, balanced ‘06 is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from Rustenberg’s finest vineyard, 100% new oak. Multi-layered intense cassis, black cherries and powerful tannins with a mineral undertone. As for ‘05 and previous vintages, ageing will be richly rewarded. Natural fermentation, unfiltered.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2010, 4.5*

‘A dark, brawny style, with dense black currant paste and fig sauce notes liberally laced with roasted apple wood, chestnut and tobacco notes. The dark, smoldering finish has plenty of heft in reserve for a touch more cellaring.' - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Sept 2011)
