Notes
This work makes reference to the work of German-born British painter Walter Sickert (1860-1942), specifically his series known as ‘The Camden Town Nudes’, painted in north London between 1905 and 1913. These remarkable works ‘reinvented’ the nude and were considered radical at the time: “The uncompromising realism of Sickert’s nudes, set on iron bedsteads in the murky interiors of cheap lodging houses, challenged artistic conventions and divided critical opinion.”1
