A Victorian silver-gilt-mounted travelling dressing-table set, Frances Douglas, London, 1851
in a fitted brass-bound rosewood case, rectangular, the velvet-lined interior fitted with a mirror, seven glass bottles, four covered boxes, nail accoutrements, a miniature corkscrew and a propelling pencil with amethyst matrix engraved S. Mordan & Co, each engraved with the Diggle crest, the fall-front enclosing a pair of drawers, one fabric-lined, the other with gilt-tooled leather writing surface and jewellery compartment, the case centred with a plaque engraved with the Diggle crest, the sides applied with carrying-handles, brass stringing throughout, S. Mordan & Co Makers lock, the mirror cracked, 19,8cm high, 34cm wide, 24,8cm deep, 195g of weighable silver
