About this Item
Named after a legendary 19th-century Norwegian arctic expedition ship, these are wines of exploration, crafted by the enigmatic Thinus Kruger in the Swartland. His mission is to "always sail into unchartered waters, to boldly search for whatever great grapes lie over the next horizon."

Critics Ratings
With a stellar row of awards and critic ratings since its release (including 95 Points in Decanter Magazine and a Platter 5-star rating), this 2015 Chenin is only now starting to shine to its full potential. Revisited by auction curator Higgo Jacobs in April this year, he remarked on the wine's incredible enduring freshness and layered power.
'Like several of the best Chenins in the Cape, this is sourced mostly from Christa von La Chevallerie’s much sought after Swartland vineyard. It’s a complex, stony Chenin with cooked apple, pear and beeswax notes and a core of mouth-watering acidity. The oak is the softest of whispers here. Drink: 2016-22' - Tim Atkin SA Wine Report 2016, 95 Points
'Piekenierskloof, Swartland & Bottelary sourced 2015 underwent natural ferment in old oak. Concentrated dried peaches, hay & earthy tones give richness & breadth, yet it's light and fresh; flavours linger on pithily dry tail. Should improve good few years.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2017, 5*
