About this Item
Paserene is a small, family operated winery owned by Martin Smith and Ndabe Mareda, the sole purpose of which is to produce high-end, luxury wines. Great care was given to ensure that the wines produced, and artwork on the labels, are truly authentic to its “sense of place and people” and will guarantee a lasting legacy. The name Paserene comes from the Latin word Passeriformes, the order of "traveling and free" birds containing swifts and swallows. Paserene is situated in the quaint town of Franschhoek and is home to their award-winning wine range.
Winemakers personal tasting note:
The wine exhibits a deep golden-green colour. Primary aromas of ginger, lemon, cream and oatmeal leads the bouquet followed by white stone fruit, poached pear and lemon oil. On the palate the Chardonnay shows great concentration without being overtly powerful. A firm acidity complimented by well integrated oak contributes to the wines long finish and elegance.
Re-tasted in 2020
'The wine is in perfect condition. Pure and intense and have definitely aged with elegance. The wines retained its green hue with a slight golden rim. Slight nutty aroma has developed, but citrus and oatmeal is still the primary fruit aroma.'- Martin Smith
The art:
The label was created by a local, Cape Town based, artist Carmen Ziervogel. The girl on the front label represents the beauty of the area where the wine is from, called Elgin. All labels are hand pressed by an old Heidelberg press.
