About this Item

2019 The Golden Slopes Chenin Blanc
3 (1 x 3) 750ml

Considered among the new age icons responsible for the Swartland’s success, and a driving force behind the Swartland Revolution, Adi Badenhorst was one of the first to really believe in the area and purchased Kalmoesfontein back in 2008 with his cousin Hein. Over the last decade, 41 hectares of old vines, the oldest planted back in 1952, have been farmed back to glory. They practice biological farming and make natural wines in the traditional manner.

The Golden Slopes is named after the deep yellow coloured granite rocks found in this vineyard (planted in 1966). The soils are of course granite with a 15% clay component. The results in grapes that ripen slightly later than the vineyards on the farm and the wine always has plenty of texture and tension on the palate; wonderfully balanced acidity and length too. The aromas are dominated by yellow fruits, quince and spicy notes.

Critics Ratings

'The Golden Slopes is a vineyard planted in the mid 1960s on red and yellow granite soils right at the entrance to Adi Badenhorst's farm. Dry, pithy and taut, with apple and pear fruit, a hint of old oak and a long, mouth-watering finish. 2021-28' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 95/100.
