About this Item
In 1994, when he was only 23 years old, Jean-Marie Fourrier took over his family domaine. He had been working on the family estate since 1989, while also completing internships with Henri Jayer and Domaine Drouhin Oregon. Jean Marie's winemaking philosophy closely mirror's Jayer's – making great wines begins in the vineyard. He works hard to maintain healthy vines and practices extremely natural winemaking techniques. Today, Domaine Fourrier holds vines in a few of Gevrey Chambertin’s top vineyards, where most vines date back to the beginning of the 20th century. His most famous holdings, resulting in 'cult wines', are the ones in Griotte Chambertin and Clos St Jacques, which were planted between 1902 - 1910.

Critics Ratings
2009
'Soft floral notes add nuance and breadth to the ripe and pretty red berry fruit and earth aromas that precede the powerful, concentrated and focused middle weight plus flavors that culminate in a balanced, focused and beautifully precise and mildly austere finish. This displays plenty of underlying tension and there is a lovely sense of overall harmony here.' – Allen Meadows Burghound.com 92
‘Bright, dark red. Very pure aromas of dark berries, stony minerality and wild herbs are lifted by a floral topnote and complicated by a whiff of white truffle. Dense, layered and sweet but also sharply delineated, displaying superb acidity for the vintage. Finishes with ripe tannins and outstanding persistence. Fourrier picked later than most of his neighbors in 2009 but says that his fruit retained freshness because he did no leaf-pulling.’ – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 93+/100 (Mar 2012)
2010
'A slightly riper though still extremely fresh nose features notes of plum and dark berry fruit liqueur aromas that complement the equally ripe and velvety full-bodied flavors that brim with both minerality and plenty of dry extract that coats the mouth. Despite the seductive texture the overall impression is that this understated effort is both very serious and notably austere, indeed this is a classic Combe aux Moines that is built to age. In a word, superb.' – Allen Meadows Burghound.com 91-94
‘Medium red. Cherry, earth, mocha and game on the soil-inflected nose. A step up in silkiness of texture from the tighter Goulots, offering good thickness to its pungent red fruit and spice flavors. This fat, sweet but youthfully backward Gevrey finishes with broad, fine-grained, thoroughly buffered tannins and a salty nuance.’ – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 93+/100 (Mar 2013)
2011
'Soft but not invisible wood weaves through the beautifully well-layered and relatively high-toned red berry, plum, wet stone and sauvage scents. There is an appealing texture to the lush, indeed even opulent medium weight plus flavors that display a subtle minerality on the precise, firm and impressively persistent finish. This is a big but not especially rustic or muscular Combe Aux Moines.' – Allen Meadows Burghound.com 92
‘The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Le Combe Aux Moines has a bit of everything. Light on its feet and aromatically expressive, the Combe Aux Moines also has plenty of fruit and underlying structure. In 2011, the Combe Aux Moines stands out for its saline vibrancy. There is a weightless intensity in the glass that is simply a marvel to behold. Drinking window 2016 - 2031.’ – Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 93-95/100 (Mar 2014)
