About this Item
Domaine Henri Gouges is a highly regarded producer in Nuits-Saint-Georges with holdings in a number of the appellation's Premiers Crus. Established in 1920, Henri Gouges was dissatisfied with the idea of selling his fruit to négociants. He envisioned producing wines of superior quality from his new domaine and, by 1933, was producing, bottling and selling his own wines. The property has remained undivided and family-run, with custodianship passed from generation to generation. Today, it is managed by Henri’s great grandsons, Gregory and Antoine Gouges but Henri's philosophy: ‘it is on the vines that great wines are made’ has endured. The estate now holds 14.5 hectares of vineyards. The Premiers Crus of the domaine and the wider Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation are considered to be some of the finest in the Côte de Nuits.

Critics Ratings
Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets Saint-Georges 2011
‘Bright medium red. Liqueur-like aromas of cherry and raspberry. Sweet red fruit and spice flavors are lifted by notes of rose petal, herbs and pepper. Has the freshness and balance to give early pleasure. Finishes with lingering pepper-and-spice perfume and very good length.’ – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 90/100 (Mar 2014)
Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers 2011
‘The 2011 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Pruliers 1er Cru has a light but detailed bouquet that gradually unfurls in the glass. This is very pure and refined with raspberry, cranberry leaf, dried leaves and pressed flower scents that gain vigor in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with strawberry pastilles mixed with orange zest on the entry. There is a fine bead of acidity here, not overtly complex but tensile with respectable weight and structure on the finish. This shows better than the bottle at the Gourges retrospective. Tasted at Flint Wines Burgundy 2011. Drinking window 2020 - 2032.’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 90/100 (May 2019)
