About this Item
Domaine Henri Gouges is a highly regarded producer in Nuits-Saint-Georges with holdings in a number of the appellation's Premiers Crus. Established in 1920, Henri Gouges was dissatisfied with the idea of selling his fruit to négociants. He envisioned producing wines of superior quality from his new domaine and, by 1933, was producing, bottling and selling his own wines. The property has remained undivided and family-run, with custodianship passed from generation to generation. Today, it is managed by Henri’s great grandsons, Gregory and Antoine Gouges but Henri's philosophy: ‘it is on the vines that great wines are made’ has endured. The estate now holds 14.5 hectares of vineyards. The Premiers Crus of the domaine and the wider Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation are considered to be some of the finest in the Côte de Nuits.

Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets Saint-Georges 2010
‘The 2010 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Porrets Saint-Georges 1er Cru has a fragrant bouquet with redcurrant and cranberry, a subtle seawater scent that emerges with time. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, packed full of blackcurrant and cranberry. There is a trademark leafiness that develops towards the firm, structured finish with traces of black tea on the aftertaste. Give this another two or three years in bottle. Tasted at the Gouges retrospective at La Cabotte. Drinking window 2020 - 2031.’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 92/100 (Oct 2018)
Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains 2010
‘The 2010 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vaucrains 1er Cru is a wine tasted on three occasions. I much prefer this to the 2007. The bouquet is expressive and vivacious with rose petals and vibrant red fruit, much more detailed than the 2007. The palate is pretty, feminine and bright with fine tannins although like before, it just takes its foot off the accelerator towards the finish. Give it another couple of years in the cellar. Tasted from a bottle from my personal cellar. Drinking window 2020 - 2035.’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 91/100 (Oct 2018)
