Matthew Partridge will discuss Irma Stern’s career defining exhibition Peintures D’Afrique in 1947 at the Wildenstein Gallery in Paris. Here he will consider the context of the prolific artistic production behind Stern’s travels to both the Congo and Zanzibar during the interwar years and discuss the impact of her subsequent exhibitions in post-war Europe.
