James Dixon & Sons Ltd

Sheffield, England

James Dixon & Sons Ltd was founded around 1806 in Sheffield by James Dixon and Thomas Smith. Initially a silversmith and Britannia metal manufacturer, the company expanded to Cornish Place in 1824. After Smith’s departure in 1823, Dixon’s son William Frederick joined the firm, which became James Dixon & Sons in 1835. They began producing electroplated goods in 1848 and won multiple awards at the 1851 Great Exhibition.

The firm continued to grow, producing silver, stainless steel items, and famous trophies, like the Hales Trophy and Masters Golf Tournament Trophy. It remained family-run until 1976, facing financial collapse and closing production in 1992. Known for its high-quality silverware and whistles, James Dixon & Sons remains a respected name in the industry.
