Nathaniel Mills

Birmingham, England

Active: 1826 - 1857

Nathaniel Mills (1746–1843) was a renowned Birmingham silversmith. His company, Nathaniel Mills & Sons, flourished between 1820 and 1850, specializing in vinaigrettes, snuff boxes, and card cases. Mills became particularly famous for his "castle-top" silver pieces, which depicted British landmarks and were popular souvenirs for wealthy travellers during the early years of the railway. Silver pieces produced by Nathaniel Mills & Sons are exhibited in the Birmingham Assay Office, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and are sought after by individual collectors. After Mills' death, the family business was continued by his sons.
