Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard I

London, England

Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard I was a prominent English silversmith partnership that operated in London from 1808 to 1828. After the death of her husband, John Emes, in 1808, Rebecca continued the silversmith business, initially in partnership with William Emes, and later with Edward Barnard, her husband's former foreman. Under their collaboration, the firm became one of the largest and most successful silversmiths of the period, specializing in high-quality silverware, including tea and coffee services. They also had connections with leading firms such as Rundell, Bridge & Rundell. After Rebecca Emes's death in 1828, Edward Barnard continued the business, which was later passed down to his sons, becoming known as Edward Barnard & Sons. The firm continued to thrive and was later known for creating the Royal baptismal font for Queen Victoria in 1840.
