Robert Pringle & Sons

Birmingham & London, England

The business was founded in London by Robert Pringle (I) in 1835 and later continued by his son, Robert Pringle (II). In around 1882, the firm was renamed Robert Pringle & Co. and expanded its operations at Wilderness Works, engaging in gold, silver, and gem jewelry making, as well as gilding, plating, refining, assaying, electroplating, and silver-plate manufacturing. Robert Pringle (II) was assisted by his sons: James and Robert (III) in the bullion refinery department, William in silversmithing, and Edwin in the watch department. In 1899, Robert (III) became a partner, and the firm was renamed Robert Pringle & Sons. Following Robert (II)'s death in 1907, his sons William, James, and Edwin joined Robert (III) in managing the business. In 1931, the firm became a limited liability company as Robert Pringle & Sons (London) Ltd., operating under this name until about 1965.
