Notes
“A book like this shouldn’t have much text. Only this page. It contains work from 1953 when I started at Bradford School Of Art aged 16 up to this year, 2016. It is almost chronological and entirely visual. I ask, how do I see the world? Well, through time, which we can’t escape. So there’s a hierarchy, I see something first and then second and so on. What is it I see and how do I depict it? I do NOT think the world looks like photographs. Which is only one way of depicting the world. I am interested in perspective, but that means isometric and reverse perspective as well, all perfectly valid forms of it. I have always been affected by the place I am in. London, Paris, L.A. and Yorkshire dominate this book. The world around me. And all the world’s a stage.”
