About this Item
The Sabon family has a long history in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, tracing their roots back to 1540. However, the first wine bottled under the family name was in 1921. Domaine Roger Sabon was founded by the namesake in 1952 and is currently run by Roger’s sons, Denis and Gilbert. The estate consists of 50 hectares split up between Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Lirac, Côtes-du-Rhône and Vin de France. Robert Parker states: ‘this has long been one of my favorite estates in the Southern Rhône… The style here is a brilliant combination of the best traditional techniques married to a handful of modern nuances.’
Organic Certification
Both farmed and made according to organic practices, certified by ECOCERT (mostly Europe) and other organisations.
Certified organically grown grapes - no use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. Use of certain cover crops, methods of soil care, and other specified vineyard care.
Wine made according to strict standards - use of approved, organic yeast, and no added sulfites or other specified additives. Does not imply that the wine is vegan (allows for specified fining agents (including egg whites) and enzymes). In certain regions this is extended to chaptalisation and acid addition.

Critics Ratings
‘Muscular grip holds the edges, while the core of plum, black currant and steeped blackberry fruit waits in reserve, with black tea, pastis and licorice root notes on the finish. Shows solid range and depth. Best from 2015 through 2023.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Oct 2014)
‘Inky ruby. Deeply pitched black and blue fruit display very good clarity, picking up aromas of star anise and smoky minerals with air. Supple and creamy on the palate, with intense blueberry and floral pastille given lift by juicy acidity. Clings with strong tenacity on the smoothly tannic finish.’ - Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 91/100 (Apr 2015)
