Gabrielle Kruger has developed a practice which pushes the conventions of traditional painting through a masterful handling of her own unique formula of acrylic paint, which she works with in a sculptural manner by extruding and drying pieces of paint to assemble the painting. Drawn to the malleability of her chosen medium, the artist pushes and plays with the limits of acrylic paint in her processes of layering, weaving, scraping, cutting, plaiting, collaging and folding. By doing so, Kruger allows the paint its own language; where each created element becomes a new brushstroke; a new type of mark making. Inspired by the natural environment, but working with a material so similar to plastic, she is conscious not to pollute the environment with it, so every last scrap of paint is reused and reincorporated in her practice.
