Notes

Emma Willemse (b.1959) was born in South Africa and is a conceptual artist, art educator and curator. She is interested in ideas concerning sense of place, loss of place and displacement. Emma has exhibited extensively locally and overseas, and her works have been included in the collections of the Art Bank Johannesburg, the Spier Collection and the South African Embassy in Beijing. Her award-winning artist’s books have been exhibited in Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Johannesburg, Florence, Paris, London and at the Dak’Art Biennale in Senegal. She is the recipient of the Medal of Honour for Humanities and the Arts 2022 awarded by the South African Academy for Science and Arts.
