About this Item

Jim Barry Wines is one of South Australia's most well-known wine producers, having crafted a name for its premium wines made from Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Riesling. The winery was established in 1959 when Jim and his wife Nancy purchased their first property and vineyards on the outskirts of the Clare Valley. Today the estate owns vineyards in the Clare Valley and Coonawarra, and is well regarded among critics and consumers alike.

Jim Barry’s flagship is the famous Armagh Shiraz. The 2005 Shiraz “Armagh” was sourced from a vineyard planted in 1964 on its own roots

Critics Ratings

‘Deep garnet in color with a touch of purple, the 2005 The Armagh Shiraz presents enticing smoked meat, black currant preserves and dried mulberries on the nose complemented by notes of charcoal, mocha, nuts and spices making it overall a little funky. Medium to full-bodied with rich, savory fruit concentration, it is framed by medium to firm, grainy tannins that lend a taut and muscular character to the long finish. Approachable now, it should be long lived and drink to 2025+. ‘ - Lisa Perrotii-Brown, Wine Advocate, 96/100 (Feb 2013)

‘Inky ruby. Explosively perfumed aromas of blackberry, blueberry, cherry pie, smoked meat and incense. Lush and creamy on the palate, which repeats the black and blue fruit qualities and gains tannic structure with air. For a wine of this size, there’s excellent energy and focus. Seems never to let up, eventually finishing on sexy notes of black and blue fruit liqueur and sweet tobacco.’ - Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 94/100 (Sept 2008)
