Critics Ratings

The Hess Collection Mountain Cuvée, Mount Veeder Napa Valley 2002
‘A successful wine that shows its mountain origins in the density and concentration of tannins and flavors, yet it's so soft, in the modern way, it's immediately drinkable. Dry, robust flavors of black cherries, chocolate and wild herbs.’ - Wine Enthusiast, 90/100 (Oct 2005)

‘Mid+ mahogany. A quiet nose with hints of ripe fruit, dried earth and liquorice. Slowly reveals more blackcurrant. A soft palate entry, with rich, fleshy cabernet elements of traditional Napa yet with blackberry, spices and pepper notes suggesting Syrah (of which there is a portion). Full-bodied, polished and ambitious with a well-integrated but generous alcohol. The finish, whilst long, yields to a sweet, somewhat syrupy texture like prune juice and damson jam. Yet this is impressive for 19 years old.’ - Cellartracker, 91/100 (Jan 2021)

The Hess Collection Cabernet Sauvignon, Mount Veeder Napa Valley 2003
'Aromas of cherry cola, chocolate, dark fruits, and fragrant oak jump from the glass. Firm, but very fine tannins on the palate with dark and blue fruits. Excellent concentration typical of Napa mountain fruit. Hints of cedar, vanilla, and spice from the high quality oak. Medium-long finish with lasting tannins.’ - Cellartracker, 91/100 (Dec 2012)
