About this Item
Kapcsándy Family Winery is a wine producer located in the Yountville sub-appellation of Napa Valley, California. It is particularly well-known for its Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon blends, which can reach some high prices and are sold mostly through allocation. The State Lane Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon has had 100-point scores from top wine critic Robert Parker for several vintages. The estate was established by Lou Kapcsándy, who had fled his home country of Hungary in the 1950s. In the U.S. he became a petroleum and pharmaceutical engineer, and in his spare time developed a passion for fine French wine. In 2000, he bought the State Lane Vineyard in Yountville which had previously belonged to Beringer. Kapcsándy Family Winery, an intergenerational labor of love that brings the finest attributes of European grand cru wines to the Napa Valley.
This is Kapcsándy's smallest production wine and is named in homage of their Hungarian heritage. "Rapszodia" is the Hungarian translation for "Rhapsody". A rhapsody in music is a one-movement work that is episodic yet integrated, free-flowing in structure, includes contrasted moods, color and tonality, all of which offer a feeling of spontaneity.

Critics Ratings
‘Another Cheval Blanc-like blend of 65% Cabernet Franc and 35% Merlot is the 2013 Rapszodia Proprietary Red, which has mind-blowing aromatics of blueberries, white flowers, raspberries and foresty notes in a fragrant, compelling scent of explosive perfume. Deep, concentrated, multidimensional, yet vibrant and super-concentrated, this is another tour de force, although only 150 cases were made of this superstar that finished at 13.8% natural alcohol. Drink it over the next 25-35 years.’ - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 99/100 (Oct 2016)
‘The 2013 Rapszodia, Kapcsándy’s Cabernet Franc/Merlot blend, is utterly magnificent. Deep, powerful and wonderfully resonant in the glass, with broad shoulders and fabulous concentration, the 2013 exudes a regal, aristocratic personality that is undeniable. Mocha, plum, espresso, spice and leather are some of the many dimensions that open up. Readers will have to be patient, though, as the 2013 is a wine built for the cellar. In 2013, the blend is 65% Cabernet Franc and 35% Merlot.’ - Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 97+/100 (Oct 2015)
