About this Item
At more than 3,200 feet above sea level within the magical Cederberg Wilderness Area, Cederberg Private Cellar is South Africa’s highest vineyard. The Nieuwoudt family have been farming in the Cederberg mountain for five generations, with vines planted as early as 1973, but the brand has been energetically driven to become one of SA wine's real success stories by David Nieuwoudt, now at the helm. Thanks to the isolation of the vineyards and the extreme winters, the vineyards are largely virus and disease free. David has single handedly established an enviable terroir identity for the Cederberg, while simultaneously building other successful, pioneering wine ventures, notably Ghost Corner in the region of Elim.
'Teen Die Hoog Shiraz is a soil specific parcel, situated on a red shale high altitude slope. Berry sorting by hand. Cold maceration for two days was followed by two punch-downs a day and gentle pump-overs throughout fermentation. Matured in new 225 litre French oak barrels for 15 months. A selection of the best three barrels.' - Auction Year: 2018

Critics Ratings
'Differs from its sibling in 100% new oak; 2015 is multifaceted, darker toned, more compact. Scrub, peppery spice, cocoa, lovely freshness & enough concentrated fruit to cloak the fine-grained tannins. Still an infant, the best lies ahead.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2018, 4.5* (93 pts)
'This is quite liquorous and warm in character, with a dense black-fruit core that's accented by notes of purple violet, iodine, game meat and black tea. The mouthfeel is plush and velvety, with structured tannins and spicy notes of pepper and mocha that carry through on the finish.' - Wine Enthusiast, 90/100 (Jan 2017)
