Guigal Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde 1996
‘Full red-ruby. Aromatic nose of cherry, raspberry, smoked game and pepper. Suppler palate feel than the Hermitage, with lovely harmonious acidity framing the raspberry flavor. More pliant and perhaps longer than the Hermitage, relying more on its acidity than its tannins for structure. A distinctly northern, Burgundian style of Côte-Rôtie, in the style of the vintage.’ - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous (Jan 2000)
Guigal Côte-Rôtie Brune et Blonde 2000
'96% Syrah, 4% Viognier, 38 hl/ha yield, fermented in closed stainless steel vats, 3 week cuvaison, aged 30 months in oak casks. Mid crimson. Quite integrated intense savoury nose. Very sweet, beguiling palate entry. Rich and round and flattering with a little bit of spice, almost cinnamon. Skilful winemaking which has rubbed all the edges off already yet the wine is not dangerously evolved. Great balance.' - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17+/20 (Jun 2006)
'Discreet red, with reserved mineral, wet earth character and a tightly wound tannin structure. The fruit isn't very ripe, but shows up as cherries, blackberries and, in a different register, some floral notes. Very subtle oak, just touches of mocha and spices. Will improve with age.' - Wine Spectator, 90/100 (Aug 2003)
