About this Item
Michel’s Chapoutier’s landholding, track record and incredible consistency from entry-level wines through to the single-vineyards is unparalleled in the world of wine. Chapoutier ranked 4th in 2019 amongst the “World's Most Admired Wine Brands“. Chapoutier is one of the oldest names in the Rhone valley. Founded in 1808 by the Calvet family, it was sold to the Chapoutier family in 1855. Today, Michel Chapoutier is the reference-point for the entire Rhône Valley, especially with their single vineyard Sélections Parcellaires. In fact, Robert Parker has praised Chapoutier’s Northern Rhône’s as some of the world’s finest wines.

M.Chapoutier Saint-Joseph Deschants 1999
‘Get past the animal, rustic aromas of this wine, and it shows very fine paces. It is bursting with Syrah perfumes and ripe fruit. Solid, powerful, concentrated, with spice and fine tannins, it will develop over the next five years.’ - Wine Enthusiast, 91/100 (Jan 2002)
‘Bright saturated ruby. Blueberry, leather and game on the nose; slightly liqueur-like. Juicy and nicely delineated, with sweet, supple red fruit flavors and firm underlying mineral character. Persistent finish features very fine, ripe tannins. Excellent potential.’ - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous (Jan 2001)
M.Chapoutier Côte-Rôtie Les Bécasses 1999
‘The 1999 Côte-Rôtie Les Bécasses is the finest Côte-Rôtie Chapoutier has made at this price level in many years. It offers a classic nose of cassis, smoke, espresso, and tapenade. This wine is voluptuous as well as elegant. It is a spicy, rich, and medium to full-bodied wine.’ - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Apr 2002)
‘You couldn't mistake this Côte-Rôtie for anything else: Floral-herb aromas are bolstered by smoky green tobacco, white-pepper and cranberry. It's ultra-structured, with a strong iron-mineral core that needs at least two, but as many as 10, years of cellaring to soften. Tart red-berry, even animal, flavors cushion the steely core flavors and round out the finish.’ - Wine Enthusiast, 94/100 (Jan 2001)
