About this Item
After nearly 2 decades at La Motte, Jacques Borman established family-owned Boschkloof in 1996 and built a reputation with these quality, structured, long-lived Stellenbosch reds, most notably Syrah, earning him a membership with the Cape Winemakers Guild. Around the turn of the last decade the arrival of his son Reenen onto the scene (also behind the successful Patatsfontein, Kottabos and Sons of Sugarland) saw the bar being raised even further, with many commentators tipping him as one to watch in terms of next generation Cape winemakers.
'Harvested at around 24° Balling. 50% whole bunch. Fermented naturally in 500 litre, open French oak barrel. After fermentation, left on skins for another 20 days. Hand pressed with small basket press. Malolactic fermentation in barrel and the wine was matured for 16 months in 20% new French oak.' - Auction Year: 2016

Critics Ratings
‘Bright, dark red with ruby tones. Very primary yet delightfully perfumed aromas of blackberry, violet and black and white pepper. Intense dark fruit flavors are quite imploded today, even a bit tough in the early going. Finishes firm, dry and long. This wine will need time in bottle to develop more nuance.’ - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 91/100 (Sept 2016)
Young and fairly tight at the moment, this opens with direct notes of blackberry, plum skin and bramble, while accents of licorice, tree bark and char hide beneath. The medium-weight palate is currently tightly wound, with structured tannins and notes of black tea and spicy cedar that unfold on the finish. Truly an infant, so try from 2020–2025. - Wine Enthusiast, 92/100 (Jan 2016)
