About this Item
Henri Bonneau was born in 1938 and continued producing his coveted wines into his 70’s. He was the 12th generation of winemakers in his family to produce Châteauneuf-du-Pape and learnt his winemaking skills from his father and grandfather. His modest vineyards were considered by many as having the best terroir in the appellation and his wines considered legendary for their old-school style.

Critics Ratings
‘This Célestins has a lovely bouquet of mulberry, leather, liquorices, white pepper and an oddly appealing scent of kidney beans mixed with bacon fat. Full-bodied on the palate, fleshy on the entry with good acidity, quite precocious towards the finish with kirsch, crème de menthe, mint, saddle leather and a touch of the old barnyard. Very natural. Drink 2012-2030.’ - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 94/100 (Jun 2009)
‘Looks browning and tired, but smells raw and untamed, with a powerful core of braised chestnut, flint, currant paste, bittersweet cocoa and brick dust. The long, grip-filled finish echoes with blood sausage, cedar and prune. Despite its power, the riveting acidity keeps this focused and driven. Drink now through 2026.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 97/100 (May 2007)
