About this Item

2009 Crozes-Hermitage
5 (1 x 5) 750ml

Domaine Alain Graillot is a top wine producer located in Crozes-Hermitage in the northern Rhône, becoming a benchmark for the appellation and a Syrah icon! Alain founded the Domaine in 1985, releasing his first vintage from a rented vineyard. The Domaine quickly rose to prominence and only three years after its establishment, Graillot purchased the vineyards he had been renting. The Domaine was handed over to son Maxine, but the wines continue in the same style and quality. Classically styled and able to age well for many decades, Alain sadly passed in 2022.

Critics Ratings

‘Very lively, with mouthwatering acidity driving a host of lavender, iron, and bramble notes through dense raspberry and blackberry fruit. A sanguine note adds lovely, tangy length to the finish. Should rival the 2005 for best among recent vintages.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Oct 2011)

‘Deep ruby. Black raspberry and cherry on the nose and palate, with fresh violet and anise qualities adding vivacity. Juicy and precise but nicely concentrated too, with a seamless texture and very good thrust. Finishes sweet, spicy and long, with resonating florality and lingering spice notes.’ – Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 91/100 (Mar 2012)

'Ripe, juicy, but not at all sweet fruit. Dark and dense and compact on the palate. Lovely emerging fragrance. Dry, layered, great depth.' – Richard Hemming MW,  JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Oct 2013)
