About this Item
Located in the heart of Gigondas, Saint Cosme is one of the oldest estates in the region with its winemaking dating back to Roman times. The estate has belonged to the Barruol family since 1490 and has passed through 14 generations. They have 15 hectares of old vines with an average age of 60 years and have been practicing organic viticulture since the 1970s. They established a negociant side to the business in 1997 whereby they produce wines from great terroirs and locations outside of Gigondas.

Saint Cosme Gigondas Cuvée Valbelle 2007
‘Looking first at the 2007 Gigondas Cuvee Valbelle, it offers awesome black fruits, ground herbs, peppered meats and olive tapenade-like aromas and flavors to go with a stacked mid-palate, full-bodied richness, and smoking length on the finish. It’s an incredible Gigondas and can be consumed anytime over the coming 10-15 years. Drink 2014 - 2029.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, 95/100 (Aug 2014)
‘Still tight, but with a gorgeous core of raspberry and black Mission fig fruit in reserve, as well as black tea, chalky minerality and a long, perfumy finish that really stretches out nicely. Should blossom with cellaring.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 94/100 (Dec 2009)
Saint Cosme Gigondas Hominis Fides 2007
‘I’ve been lucky enough to drink through numerous bottles of the 2007 Gigondas Hominis Fides and it’s been incredibly consistent for me. It’s certainly the greatest Gigondas I’ve ever tasted and possibly the greatest Gigondas ever made. Giving up a heavenly bouquet of garrigue, graphite, crushed rocks, licorice and assorted red and black fruits, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness and a profound seamlessness that belies its richness and depth. It has sweet tannin and a wealth of fruit and will continue drinking beautifully for another two decades. Hats off to winemaker Louis Barruol for this incredible wine! Drink 2015 - 2037.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, 100/100 (Feb 2017)
‘Sappy, with intense kirsch, raspberry ganache and graphite notes that course through, while mineral, roasted fig and spice notes flash alongside. The tangy, invigorating finish just goes on and on. Drink now through 2020.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 95/100 (Dec 2009)
‘Glass-staining ruby. Exotically perfumed bouquet offers an expansive array of red and dark berry, floral and spice scents. Raspberry, mulberry and lavender pastille flavors are strikingly pure and concentrated but not heavy, benefiting from a suave spiciness and good mineral lift. The finish is sweet, penetrating and exceptionally long, leaving lush red fruit and floral notes behind.’ – Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 94/100 (Jan 2010)
