About this Item
Château Clos St. Martin is the smallest classified growth in Saint-Émilion with a 1.33-hectare vineyard. The Château is managed by Sophie Fourcade, a former attorney and a member of the Rieffers family whose wine producing history in the region dates back to the 17th century. Some of the estate’s neighbours include Château Beauséjour and Château Canon, and the property was named after the St. Martin church located nearby. The 35-year-old vines are predominantly Merlot, with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, well-positioned on the Saint-Émilion plateau with clay and limestone soils.

‘A magical wine from this microscopic vineyard, Clos St. Martin's 2000 has freakish intensity and complexity. Even better than the great 1998, its saturated opaque blue/purple color is followed by a knock-out nose of blueberries, blackberries, and minerals, with subtle oak notes well-hidden by the wealth of fruit. Medium to full-bodied and rich, with high tannin but fabulous symmetry as well as overall presence, it will require patience. This is magnificent juice! One of the potential legends of 2000. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2030.’ - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 96/100 (Apr 2003)
‘Very dark crimson. Lovely round, convincing nose. This wine has both warmth and integrity on the nose. On the palate it may lack the full-on complexity and weight of Les Grandes Murailles but it is very much of the same style. Lots of tannin there for future development. Not tarty. Very slightly inky and pinched but lots in common with Château Les Grandes Murailles.’ - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 18/20 (Oct 2003)
