About this Item
Château Providence has a long history in Pomerol, with records dating back to the 1800s. Up until 1928, the estate was named Château Tropchaud until the Dupuy family purchased it and changed its name to Château La Providence. Another name change took place in 2005 when the estate changed hands again, now belonging to the Moueix family. They dropped the ‘La’, with the Château simply being called Providence from then onwards. The 30-year-old vines, grown on gravel and clay soils, produced a Merlot-dominated Bordeaux Blend. However, 2012 was the estate’s last vintage with few bottles remaining today.

Critics Ratings
‘A dark, almost primordial style of Pomerol, the 2005 Providence has notes of new saddle leather, licorice, truffle, loamy soil, forest floor and earth, with plenty of rich blackcurrant and black cherry fruit behind all of these nuances. It is a big, masculine, full-bodied, intense Pomerol to cellar for another 4-5 years, and drink over the following two decades.’ - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 93+/100 (Jun 2015)
‘Beautiful aromas of crushed berry, chocolate and licorice, with hints of toasty oak, follow through to a full-bodied palate, with velvety tannins and a rich, wonderful finish. This is generous and balanced. Best after 2017. 1,250 cases made.’ - James Suckling, Wine Spectator, 95/100 (Mar 2008)
