Critics Ratings
2003 -'More impressive, enormous & dramatic than lovely in its tight-sprung youth: need yrs still for the concentrated sweet fruit to come out of its sombrely tannic, oak-dominated shell - but already vibrant, deep & long. Elegance is quite beside the point here … ' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2006, 4.5*
2005 - 'Some lovely earthiness here. Black fruit, liquorice, quite dense and structural - more backward than the 2007. Smoky, charred character. Flawless fruit.' - Richard Hemming MW, 17.5/20
2006 - 'As with previous, 2006 grabs attention with striking, still primary cassis and cedary scents. Tad plusher than 2005, but generosity of rich fruit reined in, freshened by fine, insistent grape tannin. Polished by well-balanced new French oak, 2 years.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2010, 4.5*
'Showing much better is the 2006 "V" that demonstrates a little more opulence and fruit intensity on the nose with ripe blackberry, raspberry, sloe and cedar with good definition. The palate has firm chalky tannins and a good sense of tension, a citrus-like acidity towards the long poised finish. This has great potential, but again it deserves time in the cellar.' - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Aug 2011)
