About this Item
Bond is the brainchild of legendary Napa Valley winemakers Bill Harlan and Bob Levy and produced by the team at cult winery Harlan Estate. They first developed the idea of producing Cabernet Sauvignon from carefully selected ‘Grand Cru’ vineyard sites around the region in 1996. Each of the five small vineyards (3-5 hectares) offer a unique terroir that expresses the pinnacle of Napa Cabernet. A blend of all the sites was also launched alongside the debut release in 1999, and is aptly named The Matriarch.
Making wines of superlative quality demands a good deal of discernment and often requires sacrifice. Rigorous selection is employed at every stage of the wine's development. Many components, though singularly attractive and possessing lavish attributes, are not utilized in the final blends for BOND. This provides us the opportunity to create a second wine. This blend, offered under the Matriarch label, will always be evocative of its pedigree and distinct in its hillside character.

Critics Ratings
‘The medium-bodied 2010 Matriarch displays lots of blueberry and black currant fruit intermixed with hints of white chocolate, espresso, spice and background oak. Opulent and lush with sweet, well-integrated tannins, this 2010 can be drunk now and over the next 10-15 years.’ - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Oct 2013)
‘Good deep ruby. Sappy aromas of black raspberry, mocha, coffee and licorice, plus a suggestion of roasted oak. Sweet, fine-grained and quite ripe, with expressive flavors of currant, tobacco and vanillin oak. A tad less sweet on the finish than the Maiden wine from Harlan.’ - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 91/100 (May 2013)
