Notes

Christine Dixie is a South African artist who lives and works in Grahamstown in the Eastern Cape. Her work concerns itself with the politics of landscape representation. Dixie has a long standing interest in how visual images are agents in the social and cultural construction of gender. Her most recent exhibition, an installation comprising prints and sculptures, The Binding, was bought by the Smithsonian Museum of African Art, Washington D.C. This work, titled To Sleep, formed part of The Binding installation. The etchings are loosely based on the narrative of the near sacrifice of Isaac.
Dixie, who also works as a lecturer in the Fine Art Department at Rhodes University, participated in the exhibition Earth Matters: Land as Material and Metaphor in the Arts of Africa at the Smithsonian African Art Museum in 2013.
