The Fabulous Picture Show
About the Session

The Fabulous Picture Show  is an annual fundraising auction held by the Friends of the Tatham Art Gallery, to raise funds for the purchase of new art works for the Tatham Art Gallery permanent collection.  It is essential for an art museum collection to grow on a regular basis, in order to reflect the dynamic nature of South African artistic production.  Without a purchasing budget and ongoing acquisitions, the collection would remain stagnant.

"Growing up in a township, I noticed that society had lost the true essence of Zulu culture and had become diluted by western influences. My artwork becomes a personal tool as I draw more aspects of my cultural roots and traditions. The research and knowledge of Zulu culture has had a subliminal yet great influence on my practical and theoretical work stressing the intersection of Zulu beadwork (with the use of glazes) and pottery. These two significant forms of crafts depicted are also a commemorative plaque to the strong women in my family who continue to nurture my own bloom of womanhood”
