About this Item
Since the 16th century, the Allegrini family has played a key role in the history of Valpolicella. The family-run business is based in the Valpolicella Classico zone of Veneto and is widely regarded as one of the leading producers in Italy, not just the region. Built on the success and hard work of Giovanni Allegrini, who was a straight forward, instinctive and innovative man, the winemaking culture and traditions have been passed down from generation to generation. Allegrini’s reputation is founded on the exceptional quality of its Amarone wines, but they also make wines outside the classic DOC appellations of the region. After his premature passing in 1983, Giovanni’s three children took over the company and continue to run it with the same passion, enthusiasm and ever-increasing skill.

Critics Ratings
‘The brilliant, young, still undeveloped cuvée of 1997 La Poja is fashioned from a six-acre vineyard situated at a high elevation. Combining power and finesse in a rich, concentrated style, it offers aromas and flavors of minerals, graphite, blackcurrants, cherries, and subtle wood. This dense ruby/purple-colored effort unfolds by increments on the palate, always remaining noble, measured, and stylish. It will benefit from another 1-2 years of cellaring.’ - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Oct 2001)
