About this Item
Established in 1921, Paolo Scavino is a historical winery in Barolo and has been one of Langhe’s leading and most innovative producers since the beginning. Based in the heart of Barolo, in Castiglione Faletto, the vineyard parcels are found in the perfect terroir where the elegance of La Morra meets the power of Serralunga. With Burgundy as his guide, Enrico – the current custodian and fourth-generation winemaker – vinifies all the parcels separately by way of understanding his land. ‘The Scavino family (Enrico and his daughters Enrica and Elisa) carry forth an important family legacy,’ writes Wine Advocate, ‘with a wide range of cru-specific wines that brilliantly exhibit individual styles.’ Their work is inspired by their love and respect for their territory, pursuing complex, elegant and terroir-expressive wines.

Paolo Scavino Barolo Cannubi 2010
‘Made from old vines in the heart of the historical Cannubi zone, this needs a little time in the glass before it opens to reveal rose, violet, clove, cinnamon, leather and berry aromas. It's very elegant, with concentrated flavors of red cherry accented with balsamic notes and cake spices alongside polished tannins and bright acidity. Drink 2020–2040.’ - Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, 97/100 (Oct 2014)
‘Perfumed and forthcoming, exhibiting violet, cherry, raspberry and spice notes. Harmonious and elegant, with firm, underlying tannins, a tightly knit structure and a terrific finish. This should develop and become more complex with time. Best from 2017 through 2032. 271 cases made.’ - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 96/100 (Dec 2014)
Paolo Scavino Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata Riserva 2009
‘Red rose, mature wild berry, dark cooking spice and a balsamic note are some of the aromas you'll find on this gorgeous wine. The structured, elegant palate delivers juicy black cherry, crushed raspberry, licorice pipe tobacco and mocha balanced by firm, silky tannins and surprising freshness for the vintage.’ - Kerin O’Keefe, Wine Enthusiast, 94/100 (Feb 2016)
‘Despite gruff tannins, this red is vibrant and focused, exhibiting cherry and plum fruit in addition to mineral and eucalyptus notes. Stays firm and persistent on the finish. Best from 2019 through 2033. 450 cases made.’ - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Apr 2016)
