About this Item

2010 Gran Toro
4 (1 x 4) 750ml

Named after the previous owner of these prestigious vineyards, Señor Elias Mora, the estate has been owned since 2000 by oenologist and one of the most notable women in the Spanish wine scene, Victoria Benavides. Situated in the famous village of San Roman de Hornija, between the Duero and Hornija rivers, their ethos is to marry the past with the present, combining the valuable knowledge of previous generations with the best aspects of modern technology and all that it implies. Crafted from 100% pre-phylloxera Tinta de Toro vines, the wine boasts hundreds of years of viniculture and makes every vintage and every bottle a unique and rewarding experience.

Critics Ratings

‘Opaque ruby. Ripe, smoky cherry and blackberry scents are enlivened by bright mineral and floral notes. Dense, chewy and broad, with dark berry and bitter cherry flavors lifted by suave oak spice and mineral nuances. Youthful tannins give shape and grip to the long, smoky finish, with the cherry note echoing. This youthful wine has the depth and structure to repay at least a decade more of cellaring.’ - Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 93/100 (Sept 2013)

‘Black cherry, cranberry and currant fruit has a crisp edge in this muscular red, with espresso, mineral and loam notes adding a savory element. Firm and focused.’ - Thomas Matthews, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Nov 2014)
