About this Item

2004 Condrieu
1 (1 x 1) 750ml

Château-Grillet has a rich history. The vineyards of Condrieu and Château-Grillet were planted by the emperor Probus in the 3rd century AD. Just 3.5 hectares in the heart of the northern Rhône valley, it is located between the villages of Vérin and Saint-Michel-sur-Rhône, on the right bank of the Rhône. Since 1936, it has been one of the smallest and most prestigious French appellations producing a single white wine. Even rarer, Château-Grillet is a monopole – with only one producer. The estate was purchased in 2011 by the Pinault family, who own several other vineyards all under the Artémis Domaines label, including Château Latour, and is managed by Frédéric Engerer.

Grillet is a tiny appellation within the larger Condrieu region, located on the steep slopes of the Rhône Valley. Grillet is one of the smallest appellations in France, with only around 3.8 hectares (9.4 acres) of vineyards owned by one producer, Château-Grillet. Due to the small size of the Grillet appellation and the exclusivity of Château-Grillet, Grillet Condrieu wines are relatively rare and may be challenging to find.
