About this Item
Established in 1921, Paolo Scavino is a historical winery in Barolo and has been one of Langhe’s leading and most innovative producers since the beginning. Based in the heart of Barolo, in Castiglione Faletto, the vineyard parcels are found in the perfect terroir where the elegance of La Morra meets the power of Serralunga. With Burgundy as his guide, Enrico – the current custodian and fourth-generation winemaker – vinifies all the parcels separately by way of understanding his land. ‘The Scavino family (Enrico and his daughters Enrica and Elisa) carry forth an important family legacy,’ writes Wine Advocate, ‘with a wide range of cru-specific wines that brilliantly exhibit individual styles.’ Their work is inspired by their love and respect for their territory, pursuing complex, elegant and terroir-expressive wines.

Critics Ratings
‘Love the nose of ripe fruits and spices here that turn to dried strawberries. Full body, with chewy tannins and loads of fruit. Solid and powerful yet polished and reserved. The relatively new vineyard is really coming together. Try in 2016.’ - James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, 95/100
‘Scavino’s 2008 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio is an attractive, fruit-driven Barolo endowed with plump dark cherries, plums, violets and spices. Stylistically it is a round, relatively soft wine for the year. The Bricco Ambrogio should offer rewarding drinking with just a few more years in bottle. This is the most accessible of Scavino’s single-vineyard 2008 Baroli. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2026.’ - Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, 93/100
‘Dark blackish ruby. Sweet and bloody and with real transparency and vibrancy. Nervy. Really rather impressive! Some opulence too. Just a little sweeter and more obvious than the most ethereal Barolo, this should really give pleasure. Neat, dry finish though it’s not yet ready. 2017-2027’ - Jancis Robinson, jancisrobinson.com, 17/20 (Sep 2012)
