About this Item
Established in 1921, Paolo Scavino is a historical winery in Barolo and has been one of Langhe’s leading and most innovative producers since the beginning. Based in the heart of Barolo, in Castiglione Faletto, the vineyard parcels are found in the perfect terroir where the elegance of La Morra meets the power of Serralunga. With Burgundy as his guide, Enrico – the current custodian and fourth-generation winemaker – vinifies all the parcels separately by way of understanding his land. ‘The Scavino family (Enrico and his daughters Enrica and Elisa) carry forth an important family legacy,’ writes Wine Advocate, ‘with a wide range of cru-specific wines that brilliantly exhibit individual styles.’ Their work is inspired by their love and respect for their territory, pursuing complex, elegant and terroir-expressive wines.

‘The 2008 Barolo Bric del Fiasc is incredibly fine in this vintage, probably because of the addition of a new Riserva from this vineyard into the lineup. Dark red fruit, flowers, mint and spices flow from this graceful, refined Barolo. It will be interesting to see where the 2008 goes from here. I can’t say the 2008 is a very typical Bric del Fiasc because it is more finesse than power, but it is a very beautiful wine just the same. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2033.’ - Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate, 95/100
‘This round red is full of cherry flavor, with a rear guard of muscular tannins. Really monolithic today, with the structure dominating. Though tightfisted on the finish, there's sweet fruit at the core. Best from 2016 through 2032.’ - Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator, 90/100
‘Fragrant raspberry, still quite embryonic, and gripping bitter-sweet tannins.’ - Walter Speller, 17+/20 (Sep 2014)
