Owusu-Ankomah is a contemporary Ghanaian artist who currently lives and works in Bremen, Germany. His work utilises Adinkra symbols, which are Ghanaian icons that represent concepts or adages, to address issues of identity and the body. His paintings are other worldly depictions where figures interact and collaborate with these Adinkra images.
From 1971 to 1974, Owusu-Ankomah studied Fine Arts at Ghanatta College in Accra, Ghana. He has exhibited throughout Germany and in countries such as the UK, USA, Senegal, and South Africa. He collaborated on a clothing line with famed designer Giorgio Armani for the Red Campaign, which helps to fund the fight against AIDS. His works are included in important collections such as the British Museum in London, UK; the Detroit Institute of Arts in Detroit, Michigan, USA; National Museum of African Art, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC, USA; and FirstRand Bank, Johannesburg, South Africa
